There are many opportunities to engage with the 2,500 Community College, Undergraduate and Postbaccalaureate Students and 500 Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scientists that attend ABRCMS. Please see below for descriptions of the following opportunities:

Become a Mentor at ABRCMS

Please note: Federal employees cannot receive any funding or compensation (complimentary travel, hotel or registration) from ABRCMS and therefore are not eligible to receive awards.

Program Directors from NIGMS-funded programs are also ineligible to receive awards.


MENTORING COACHING
Engage with trainees at Mentoring Coaching stations in the Exhibit Hall.

VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT
Up to 6 hours of face-to-face time with trainees on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
  • TRAINEES MAY PRE-REGISTER OR WALK-IN
  • SITUATED AT ROUNDTABLES IN EXHIBIT HALL FOR ONE-ON-ONE OR SMALL GROUPS
  • TWO-HOUR SESSIONS ON THURSDAY, FRIDAY, AND SATURDAY
  • PARTIAL OR FULL COVERAGE OF CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE

CAREER PANELISTS
Participate in the "Gateway to the Future" Career Roundtable Discussion.

VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT
Sit with trainees in a 1.5-hour "speed dating" small group roundtable session for career paths in the biomedical sciences.

  • TWO 30-MINUTE ROTATIONS OF TRAINEE SMALL GROUPS
  • SIT WITH TABLES OF 8-10 TRAINEES
  • PARTIAL OR FULL COVERAGE OF CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE WITH JUDGE OR MENTORING PARTICIPATION

JUDGES
Judges are needed to provide constructive feedback to the over 2,100 undergraduate and postbaccalaureate student presenters.

VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT
Attend Judges Orientation Webinar and the mandatory on-site meeting. Must judge at least 1 session on Thursday, Friday, and/or Saturday.

  • MUST BE A SENIOR LEVEL GRADUATE STUDENT, POSTDOCTORAL SCIENTIST, FACULTY MEMBER, OR RESEARCH SCIENTIST
  • MUST BE AN ACTIVE RESEARCHER IN ONE OF THE 12 ABRCMS DISCIPLINES
  • TRAVEL AWARDS ARE AVAILABLE FOR FIRST-TIME AND RETURNING JUDGES
