General Information

The goal of ABRCMS is to encourage undergraduate, postbaccalaureate, and graduate underrepresented minority students to pursue advanced training in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, including mathematics. ABRCMS, established in 2001, has become one of the largest professional conferences for biomedical and behavioral students.

On behalf of our students attendees, we ask academic institutions, organizations, foundations, professional societies and federal agencies that offer services and programs for minority students in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, including mathematics, to showcase information on fellowships, graduate and postdoctoral opportunities, and student membership opportunities.

Recruitment Team Approach to Exhibiting

A major goal for the next decade is to provide undergraduate students with numerous opportunities to practice science, conduct research, study with active researchers and transition successfully into graduate training and scientific careers. Toward that end, the ABRCMS encourages Institutional Exhibitor Teams. These Teams include at least four individuals, each assuming a unique role:

  • Research faculty share information about science courses and programs, research opportunities and mentors, career planning, and information pertinent to the research community.
  • Postdoctoral fellows do the same as research faculty and tend to add more personal experiences such as staying focused on research and working with mentors, completing graduate school and seeking postdoctoral opportunities.
  • Graduate students tend to share information about science courses and mentors, research opportunities, the campus environment, social life and networks as well managing ones time in the first two years of graduate school.
  • Graduate dean OR administrator provides general information about the institution, including deadlines and requirements for both summer and graduate programs.

ABRCMS seeks to support a highly diversified Institutional Exhibitor Team.

Familiar Features for 2012

  • Online Abstract Database by October 5, 2012.  Early release of the abstracts provides Exhibitors and Institutional Team Exhibitors to review the poster ahead, ensuring sufficient time to recruit colleagues to hear from, meet and mentor students.
  • Networking sessions for students and researchers in multiple disciplines.  On Wednesday evening after the opening session, the research community is encouraged to participate in group discussions with students to discuss science careers and professional opportunities to be part of and network within the scientific community.
  • Exhibitor Orientation on Thursday, Exhibitor Reception on Friday and Exhibitor Feedback session on Saturday. Check the preliminary program for times.
  • Early registration for Clusters with a minimum of 5 institutions to cluster together as one unit of five adjoinng booths and register and secure booth assignments at one time.
  • Presentations from graduate students will be held with the undergraduate poster sessions in a designated area of the main exhibit hall.
  • Abstracts contained on a single CD (Abstract Book will no longer printed)
