Required Abstract Components and Guidelines

Abstracts must abide by the following rules and guidelines in order to be considered for acceptance into the conference:

  • All submissions must be received by 11:59 pm Pacific Standard Time on September 5. The abstract submission site will close at 11:59 pm PST on September 5. Late submissions will not be accepted.
  • The only method of submitting an abstract is through the online abstract submission site. E-mail and paper submissions will not be accepted.
  • Accepted abstracts must contain: 1) hypothesis or statement about the problem under investigation, 2) statement of the experimental methods/methodology used, 3) essential results must be provided in summary form (even if preliminary), and 4) a conclusion.
  • Students must obtain permission from their research mentor, co-authors and program director before submitting an abstract. Research mentor, co-authors and program director will receive a copy of the notification email indicating the status of the abstract.
  • Abstracts must have at least two authors in the author block.  Abstracts with only one author will be automatically rejected.
  • Abstract must be written by the student and reviewed/edited by the mentor. Mentors should not write the abstract.
  • Only one abstract submission, poster or oral, per student is acceptable. Students must decide between submitting an abstract for poster presentation or oral presentation. If a student submits more than one abstract, all abstracts associated with the student will be automatically rejected.
  • Students working in the same lab must independently submit an original abstract. Identical abstracts submitted by different students will be automatically rejected.
  • Only students can be presenting authors.
  • Only one student, the individual listed first in the author block, can present the abstract.
  • Citations are not allowed within the abstract text and will be removed.
  • Work must be proofread prior to submission. ABRCMS staff will not edit abstracts.
